The incredible journey of two kids, 4 and 6, their parents and five other adults who sailed the famous schooner, Wander Bird, from the east coast around Cape Horn to San Francisco. They arrived in San Francisco right after the building of the Golden Gate Bridge and sailed under it into the bay harbor. Wanderbird had a long a eventful life, but sadly -- the ship several generations of Bay Area sailors know best as ‘our’ lovely Wander Bird — sank in 2019 after a collision with a commercial ship on the Elbe River near Hamburg. It was, however, recovered and is being restored in the Hvide Sane Shipyard in Denmark and was towed back to Hamburg on October 6, 2020.
