Charles and Henry Greene were born in Brighton, Ohio, in 1868 and 1870, respectively. They were both architects and had their own firm established in 1894 which cultivated a special "Arts & Crafts" style of building, furniture, textiles, et al. They moved to Pasadena, California where they practiced their style until the 1940s. "The structure of their houses is externalized rather than hidden in decoration. Each element of the structure asserts itself. This extravagance of support takes its origins from the elaborate joinery and framing of traditional Japanese architecture." Wikipedia.
