Sashiko is cloth that was originally used to make warm work clothing for peasants and is no longer in common everyday use. The cloth was originally dyed with indigo plant dye and the clothing was adorned with original designs which were passed on to later generations throughout Japan. Now the cloth is hand-made and has become very popular as a folk art. Numerous plates with the different designs and historical information.
