Churchill, Captain Philo Norton McGiffin, General William Walker (The King of the Filibusters, and Major Frederick R. Burnham (Chief of Scouts). These men were involved in a number of well known battles or wars of the time; Cuban-Spanish, Greek-Turkish, Spanish-American, Rough Riders at San Juan Hill, Guasimas, Battle of Velestinos. The author himself was a well-known reporter and adventurer of the times so writes with an air of expertise as well as a keen sense of adventure.
