Greenwood was actually Sara Jane Lippincott (1823-1904). She was a highly respected writer and journalist, contributing stories and poetry to many publicatons of her time. She also wrote a number of children's books. She was a lecturer and abolitionist before the Civil War. She was active in social issues such as prison and asylum reform. This book was a travelogue of her trip to the western U.S. and her new found love for the wide open spaces.
