A Book of Patterns for Hand-Weaving; Part One-Four in one book

Hollywood, CA: So. California Handweavers' Guild, Inc., 1977. Edited Facsimilie Reprint of the original. Softcover. Clean, tight 4to, 96pp. Has a former owner stamp on the front cover, otherwise unmarked. Near Fine except as noted. Item #17712

Very scarce book of half-tone reproductions of photographs of the drawings by John Landes, who it is presumed was an itinerant professional weaver during the Revolutionary War period. A treasure of the Frishmuth Collection in the Pennsylvania Museum, the 78 drawings in the book, with the exception of a few, appear to be entirely original. The function of the original book during that time appears to have been a catalogue for housewives to pick the "lovliest pattern" for a new coverlet to be woven by Landes with her own spun and dyed yarn. The editor has supplied drafts and directions for weaving.
